Grass: The History Of Marijuana

Great documentary on the history of the Prohibition of Marijuana
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Director: Superhate Date: September 2005 This great video for Animal Collective's 'Grass' single was shot by the band's friend, Superhate and edited in Paris in August - September 2005. Making use of negative super 8mm film, the video is composed of some beautifully coloured footage taken at a number of live shows throughout Europe between 2004 - 2005, and interspersed with some of Avey Tare's ink drawings.

WORST WEED I HAVE EVER SEEN! The only good thing about not living in the 60's or 70's is that we have great weed. good mids were considered good dank back then.... pitiful

Those whites and Anslinger were smoking herb and they knew that hemp is a big money maker, so FUCK those who lie on one natural plant that Our Creator has given to mankind that can save the trees and other natural sources that are used in place of hemp, when hemp can be used for multipurposes................hemp is safe, alcohol and cigarettes and all of those other drugs are deadly and PEOPLE DIE FROM ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES AND IT'S LEGAL! COME ON AMERICA, (ILLUMINATI) GET REAL! ALLAHU AKBAR

Funny to see these mental midgets demonizing a weed, a herb, a medicine while they themselves smoke a much deadlier drug - cigarettes....

@bezwaarlijketruffel ps--the opening line of this song "I've been walkin on feet just like my father's" reminds me of the line from grateful dead franklin's tower "Your eyes look from your mother's face." a reference to the genetic links passed down through the generations.

sparkomatic said...

Thanks everyone for the kind feedback! I've been toying around with an acoustic version of this song, with banjo. I'll try to find the time to do it and post it. Be well.

sparkomatic said...

@bezwaarlijketruffel I don't think I heard any actual Dead music...I'll check that song out though! I think they represent what I call the "artistic spirit" that the GD also embodied. A bold determination to strike out into new ground. To do things differently in every way. They organize themselves differently than the norm. They operate differently, There music sounds different and also takes on new forms.

bezwaarlijketruffel said...

@sparkomatic 2 guys of animal collective said in an interview that they were big fans of grateful dead. they also sampled a part of the rythym section of the grateful dead song unbroken chain in their song what do i want sky. Maybe you did uncounsiously hear some of grateful dead back in animal collective's music and fell in love. or maybe you fell in love with it anyway :)
